Booth showed off a strong, rootsy style on her independent debut album, 2017's Something New, but after her success on American Idol, she landed a major-label deal and adopted a more polished, pop-influenced sound on 2021's Laci Kaye Booth. Looking for greater creative freedom, she released a moody-sounding single in 2022, "Damn Good in a Dive Bar," which paved the way for the similarly impressionistic 2023 track "Cigarettes." A native of Livingston, Texas, Laci Kaye Booth was born on August 25, 1995. Her father was a fan of classic country heroes such as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings, while her mother favored more pop-influenced acts like Shania Twain, the Chicks, and Lee Ann Womack. Booth got her start in music singing in church and taking part in family karaoke contests, and she wrote her first song at the age of nine. She started playing statewide gigs on weekends during her teens, and she recorded her first album, Something New, which was independently released in 2017. Though Booth was eager to pursue a career in music, her parents insisted she attend college, and she had nearly completed her bachelor's degree when, in 2019, she auditioned for American Idol, singing Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried." She made the cut, and advanced to the Top Five of Idol's 17th season with her performances of artists ranging from blink-182 to Fleetwood Mac and the Bee Gees. Tying for fourth, she later referred to her time on the show as boot camp for what she wanted to do professionally. After relocating to Nashville and signing with 19 Recordings/Big Machine Label Group in 2020, she recorded her label debut with producer Dann Huff (Faith Hill, Keith Urban). Released in mid-2021, the eight-song Laci Kaye Booth included a duet with Lady A's Charles Kelley. While the release was modestly successful, Booth wasn't comfortable with the creative direction it took, and when she was dropped by her label, she saw it as an opportunity to reclaim her musical freedom. Working with producer and songwriter Ben West, Booth cut a handful of new songs, one of which, "Damn Good in a Dive Bar," reflected her love of both Fleetwood Mac and Lana Del Rey. The song earned positive reviews and impressive numbers on major streaming services, and led to Booth landing a new record deal, this time with Geffen. In December 2023, she released her first track for Geffen, the introspective and autobiographical "Cigarettes." 📲Laci Kaye Booth: ‪@LaciKayeBooth‬ on all socials ▶️ Other performances you might also enjoy: Andrea von Kampen - Sister Moon | OurVinyl Sessions,    • Andrea von Kampen - Sister Moon | Our...   Sawyer - Unhealthy | OurVinyl Sessions,    • Sawyer - Unhealthy | OurVinyl Sessions   🔎 About OurVinyl: OurVinyl films creative live performances with both emerging and established musicians.
