Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump over the phone on Friday. This was the first time the leaders spoke since the election of Carney as prime minister after the White House requested the call the day before. Carney said the president had not committed to removing any of the tariffs but described the conversation as “productive and positive.” Mackenzie Gray begins tonight’s coverage. A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake has rocked Southeast Asia, with its epicentre located more than 900 km from Myanmar. The tremors were felt across the region. Myanmar’s military reported that over 140 people have died in three cities, while at least nine more were killed in Thailand. Hundreds remain missing. Vincent McAviney has the latest on the deadly quake and the ongoing rescue efforts. Italy’s police have confirmed the arrest of Canada’s most wanted criminal, Dave Turmel, in Rome. Turmel, taken into custody on Thursday is accused of leading the Blood Family mafia, a violent Quebec-based street gang. Authorities have been tracking him for months. Mike Armstrong reports from Montreal on the international arrest and what it means for organized crime enforcement. Plus, Award-winning Canadian musician Sarah Harmer is being recognized at this weekend’s Juno Awards. This recognition felicitates her beyond her musical talents, for her decades of work in environmental activism. Harmer will be receiving the Junos Humanitarian Award on Sunday.
