TEXT This place just doesn’t feel like home to me. I spend all my time on the road Just driving across the state So I can feel that way when I come back home At the end of a long day. The feeling fades with time I’ve learned, Just like those lights on my front porch; They’ve all burned out too fast Since I was here last. My dad’s blue car Won’t seem to go fast enough From the place where I grew up… My home seems less like the place I used to know And more like a building With windows, and ceilings, And I been livin’ my whole life with a house and a family to miss, But ever since I got back home I’ve been feelin’ kinda homeless. I’m not sure when the thought occurred to me That home is not a place you touch or see And well I’m not sure I’ve got a place like that. This old guitar is all I think I have. I’m pretty sure I’ve done this to myself; I put my home and family life on the shelf when I’m away, makin’ trips across the state, To try and find home in another place. I think I still recall just how it feels to come back home After I’ve been gone; it’s been far too long. I remember drivin’ down my road to feel my heart explode Just a year or two ago, before we all grew cold. I shivered when I told myself “this place is home”. Hi Suzi and Travis! I’m sharing a new release from the UK vocal group Voces8. It’s an original song by member Blake Morgan (a Detroit, Michigan native), who Travis sometimes refers to as an angel. I was stunned hearing this as Blake captures the feeling I get when I visit the small rural town in northwestern New Jersey where I grew up. The message of the song is that you can’t go home again. I don’t know if you guys ever experienced that feeling, but I’m surprised that someone as young as Blake has. Okay, full disclosure, I sat on the floor after I watched this video and cried… sorry.
