Various of people in prayer STORYLINE: Filipinos went to church on Sunday to pray for the recovery of Pope John Paul II. Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales, Archbishop of Manila, presided over a mass at the Manila Cathedral that included prayers for the quick recovery of the Holy Father in his homily. The Philippines, with a population of 80 (m) million, is the only predominantly Roman Catholic nation in Asia and has been visited twice by John Paul during his 27 years as pope. The ailing pontiff was rushed to a Rome hospital on Tuesday night after he developed breathing problems during a bout of flu. But the 84-year-old head of the Roman Catholic Church, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, is breathing more easily and resting comfortably. In another hopeful sign, it is believed that the Pope will be well enough on Sunday to say a few words to a public apprehensive about his health, giant video screens were ordered to be set up in St. Peter's Square, where thousands of faithful are expected to gather to pray for his recovery. Whether the hook-up with the hospital takes place depends on the pope's condition on Sunday, Vatican officials indicated.
