Holt Heath Fire

This video is a documentation of the horrific fire which was deliberately set earlier in the Summer, one of the hottest we have had in several years. Our British Heathlands are more endangered and rarer than the Rainforests and this particular one is the ONLY place you will find all 6 of our native reptiles living together. We first saw the plume of smoke rising on the horizon and then the messages started coming in about avoiding the area as there was a major incident. We were in no danger as we are several miles away but it is one of our favourite places to walk and we have friends who live near who could have been in danger. So many Fire and Rescue Services came to the aid of the Dorset and Wiltshire Service and it made national headlines for several days. It took a week to get under control enough for it to be left without any danger of flare ups. The first few minutes of the video was taken by ‪@stunningdrone‬ who did an amazing job of documenting the whole incident. The rest of the footage is Gwyn and I revisiting 3 months later, well after there was any danger, it had cooled and rained several times and the heath was trying to recover a little. You can see by Gwyn's body language, tail down and slightly hunched, she was very unsure what had happened to somewhere she was quite familiar with. She soon gained her confidence back. We will certainly revisit in the Spring to see how it is recovering.
