My Dojo/Weather Loach's butt has been floating for a while now. I've figured out the problem, how it happened, and the solution. CORRECTION: It's not a "second air sac" like I said in the video. PROBLEM: It's very likely an issue of (too much) air in the intestines. BACKGROUND: Dojo loaches, if the water is low in dissolved oxygen, will switch to an alternative breathing method. They gulp air, pass it through the digestive system and will absorb oxygen from the swallowed air via the small intestines. WARNING: If you think your dojo is experiencing this, try removing them for 5 minutes for a quick test. However, THERE IS SOME RISK in removing a dojo from the water. People all around the globe report their HEALTHY dojos can survive 30 minutes to 2 or 3 hours outside the tank (even longer if on wet sand/mud). This is because they stop using their gills, start secreting a mucus layer (no scales remember) and switch to alternate breathing. You, however, have an UNHEALTHY loach and their anus MIGHT be closed up. Meaning, you'll exacerbate the problem if it is not an atmospheric sensitivity issue. SUMMARY: If your loach is ONLY having an atmospheric sensitivity issue, they SHOULD sense the strong decline in atmospheric pressure and SHOULD start farting their butt off (pun intended).
