This is a test to see which is better at recording FM radio airchecks on stronger stations: my SDR or my BrailleSense. For this test, I took a long aircheck on both devices of 102.7 WVSR-FM in Charleston, West Virginia. During this portion of the capture they were playing the song "Give Me Everything" by Pitbull featuring Afrojack, Ne-Yo and Nayer. My BrailleSense 6 (pictured) has been my goto device for FM airchecks for some time. SO long as the station is strong, it produces great quality results in full stereo, and is able to record in MP3 or WAV. The SDR is an RTL-SDR Blog V4 dongle hanging out the back end of a Dell PowerEdge R620 server. Using RTL-TCP software, I'm able to connect to it using the SDRTouch app on my phone and listen to stations. (the app also supports direct connection of the dongle to the phone over USB, but this way I didn't have to have a long dongle and antenna dangling from my Pixel 8.) You'll notice that the stereo image on the SDR is wider than that of the BrailleSense, and there's more trebble (though I'd argue the SDR sounds a bit shrill.) Of course, better demodulation is always possible, this is just using SDRTouch's "Broadcast FM" preset with a wide filter width. For what its worth, RDS data decoded perfectly. - TIMESTAMPS- The switch occurs every few measures. 0:00 SDR 0:10 BS6 0:14 SDR 0:18 BS6 0:21 SDR 0:29 BS6 0:36 SDR 0:44 BS6 0:51 SDR 0:55 BS6 0:59 SDR 1:02 BS6 1:13 SDR 1:21 BS6 1:28 SDR 1:43 BS6 Station is owned by Bristol Broadcasting Company.
