A complete guide to hiking to the Hollywood Sign's 3 BEST viewing areas

It's iconic and a bucket list trail that many want to do. But there can be some confusion as to how exactly to do it... in this guide however I walk you through the proper and correct way to tackle the hike, which begins at the Brush Canyon Trailhead. The Brush Canyon Trailhead can be reached by taxi, and at the start of the path, you'll find a map which includes all of the trails within Griffith Park but because of the many miles of routes, it can be complicated to understand exactly how to reach the sign itself. There are 3 official viewing areas, the Hollyridge Trail, the Tyrolian Tank Trail and Mount Lee Summit. And to visit each one is very doable in one hike. Starting out at the Brush Canyon Trailhead, you'll walk around a mile along the track. It's uphill all the way, but a gradual accent. As you move forwards, the views of Los Angeles get clearer and you'll begin to see the Hollywood Sign in the distance. You'll reach a T-Junction with the Mullholland Trail, here you need to turn left. It's then not far until you are greeted with a fork with a track to the right and one going downhill to the left. The track on the left is the Hollyridge Trail, you need to take this, walk past the stables and then you'll arrive at the first viewing area. It's also a great location for hike snack. When you are ready to move forwards again, head back up the Hollyridge Trail back to the fork. Double back on yourself heading up the path on the right of the fork - you'll weave around the mountain with LA directly in front of you for the most part of this stretch. When you arrive at Mount Lee Drive at the end of the track, you'll find a signpost on the tarmac road with directions. To reach the second viewing area on my route, Mount Lee Summit, turn right and follow the road up for a mile until you reach the very top. It is here where you get to stand right behind the Hollywood Sign looking out across to Los Angeles. After taking in the terrific views, you will head back down the road and continue all the way down, passing the signpost you turned right at before, until you reach an area where the road ends. At the point the road ends, you'll find a path to the right, and after a short walk upwards, you'll reach the third area to look at the Hollywood Sign. A great way to complete your adventure is to then to walk through the pathway by the houses which brings you out onto Mullholland Highway. You can then begin to walk all the way south, stopping at the Beachwood Cafe for a refreshment and order a taxi, or continue to the Hollywood Boulevard which you'll meet if you continue south on Beachwood Drive. This is a great hike that is a must-do for any keen hiker. It's a thrill to be hiking to such an iconic location, the scenery and views are stunning too.
