This self-limiting condition is characterized by inflammation of small blood vessels that can impact four major systems: Skin: Patients develop palpable purpuric lesions—non-blanching, bruise-like spots that appear mainly on the lower extremities and back. These lesions are confirmed by diascopy, where the affected areas remain discolored when pressure (using a glass slide) is applied . Joints: Arthritis and arthralgia are common, with the knee and ankle joints being frequently affected, leading to pain and swelling . Gastrointestinal Tract: Vasculitis in the GI tract may cause abdominal pain, nausea, bleeding, and even complications like intussusception due to inflammation of the bowel . Kidneys: Renal involvement can range from mild proteinuria and hematuria to severe renal failure. Laboratory tests frequently reveal elevated ESR, CRP, and abnormal renal function; a skin biopsy with immunofluorescence often demonstrates IgA deposition, a hallmark of the disease .
