The Lisgar C.I. Flute Ensemble commissioned Cait Nishimura to create this beautiful piece of music during the 2020-2021 school year. Cait Nishimura is Canadian composer, songwriter, and music educator based in Toronto. Known for writing melody-driven, programmatic music, Cait has quickly established herself as a prominent voice in the concert band community. With influences from minimalism and pop music, her work is full of simple yet lush harmonies, and themes that linger in listeners’ minds. A lifelong nature-lover, she draws inspiration from the beauty of the natural world and aims to transport listeners to the landscapes she writes about. www.caitnishimura.com Ottawa is a city that is filled with many beautiful waterways, because of this the students used the idea of water as a metaphor for resilience as their inspiration for the music. Thank you to Cait Nishimura for taking the time to work with the ensemble, listening thoughtfully to their ideas about music and life during a pandemic. This school year was challenging and they will never forget creating such an inspirational and beautiful piece of music with you. Thank you to Sheri Grant-Perras and her Grade 11/12 Art Class for collaborating with the Flute Ensemble. The five pieces of art in order of appearance were submitted by: Nickie Lu Rebecca Taylor Naomi Trueman Nethuli Perera Emily Rest Thank you to the Kiwanis Music Festival and in particular the family of Ronald Duck and the Ottawa Flute Association for the generous scholarships that made this project possible..
