This fight is still my favorite non-Eikon fight in the entire game and I think is FF16 combat at its absolute best. After practicing this fight for so long, mostly for learning to how to parry, I also felt I got a lot better with the flow of the fight and his attacks in general. I feel like this is my absolute best and cleanest fight thus far and I’m really happy with how it turned out. A hitless phase 1 and 2 with only 3 hits in the final phase with 7 consecutive parries and 12 total throughout the fight along with that satisfying Circle of Malius parry. Only way it could’ve been better is no damage the whole way through but I have never aimed for that in any of these fights. I spent a long time learning the parry timings in this fight, and the vast majority of the time I was, I did regular sword parries. I got pretty consistent with parrying his lunge attack this way but the sweep attack was about 50/50. So in the end after all that I decided to use Aerial Burning Blades which were, unsurprisingly, much easier to land. But in the midst of practicing parries I also decided to try out the Arm of Darkness parry, just to see how it felt and I have to say the parry timing is a LOT more generous than a regular sword parry. I didn’t want to switch off and on all throughout the fight though so I decided that at the start of phase 3, I would change to Arm of Darkness and use Steel Counter to charge up my Zantetsuken. I feel this is a pretty cool and stylish way to charge your zan meter without using any of Odin’s Eikon abilities haha. Admittedly my load out this time was pretty meta. I used the Lightning Rod and Flames of Rebirth Combo I’ve enjoyed using for big will damage (this combo I’ve never really seen anyone use tbh) but also brought Gigaflare as well to combo with Lightning Rod. On top of that I had Odin and the ridiculously strong Zantetsuken. Heatwave I brought solely for Gungnir because I’ve always had a hard time dodging it consistently for some reason. And Wicked Wheel never comes off my build, it’s always there for the big will damage. Again was very happy and satisfied with this run and I feel like it’ll be hard for me to top this fight, if I can 😆 #ff16 #finalfantasy16
