Passage 2 of the Arizona Trail starts, if you are heading northbound, at the Parker Canyon Lake Trailhead. On our six mile out-and-back on Thanksgiving Day we saw three southbound thru hikers. It was "only" another 25 miles or so for them to get to Montezuma Pass and complete the entire trail. It had snowed on the Crest Trail in the Huachucas the night before, and I'm sure their last couple days on the trail were cold and icy! Over the years Joe and I have taken Thanksgiving hikes in the Chiricahuas, on Fort Huachuca, along the San Pedro, and in the Dragoons to name a few places. It's a great way to make room for more pie, and to appreciate how beautiful life is! If you're looking for more videos that include parts of AZT Passages 1, 2 or 3, check out this playlist: • Arizona Trail Passages DIRECTIONS TO THE TRAILHEAD: From the town of Sonoita, follow AZ 83 south 30 miles to its intersection with FR 48. Turn left (south) onto FR 48, continue 0.5 miles, and turn right onto South Lake Drive. Proceed 0.5 miles to a parking area with an AZT sign. BE CAREFUL IF YOU USE GOOGLE MAPS TO ROUTE YOU FROM SIERRA VISTA TO THE TRAILHEAD ! It may try to route you via Garden Canyon Road on Fort Huachuca over the crest of the Huachuca Mountains. This is not a drivable route. Instead either take (1) Canelo Road through Fort Huachuca to FR 48 or (2) go south through Coronado National Memorial on Montezuma Canyon road or (3) drive to AZ 82 in Whetstone, then to AZ 83 to FR 48. best hikes in Arizona hikes near Sierra Vista hikes near Tucson AZT AZT Passage 2
