Victorian Christmas is a street and arts festival that takes place on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons in downtown Nevada City. From the Chamber of Commerce website: Holiday celebrants fill the streets, sampling the outdoor fare of friendly hawkers and vendors and food and goods offered by downtown restaurants and specialty shops. Victorian singers, bagpipers, a living nativity scene and visits with Santa Claus are among the attractions. Taste chestnuts roasted on an open fire and enjoy strolling minstrels, brass bands, hay wagon rides and much more. Victorian Christmas is something that one must experience at least once. It's backdropped against beautiful downtown Nevada City. This time of year, the rooftops get dressed up in christmas lights and the lamp posts in wreathes, making it a beautiful, christmasy occasion that's sure to fill you with some holiday spirit. There are usually four to five festivals per season, usually starting the first wednesday after Thanksgiving, and continuing on until just before Christmas Eve. The Wednesday festivals usually take place in the evenings, making it the perfect destination to walk around with a date and look at the christmas lights and sights, or to spend the evening on the town with friends. The Sunday festivals tend to happen early in the day while it's still light out, making it ideal for families.
