NationalDefence Bureau, New Delhi, 01 January 2017 Army Chief General Bipin Rawat says Lt. Gen. Praveen Bakshi & Lt. Gen Heriz have worked with him shoulder to shoulder (in past) and he can say confidently that in future also they will work shoulder to shoulder not with him but for the unity and might of Indian Army. General Bipin Rawat said that it was a Government decision which he humbly accepts. I respect those officers who were being superseded (read Lt. Gen. Praveen Bakshi & Lt. Gen. PM Hariz). General Rawat was addressing media at South Block on 1st day of new year 2017 where he was presented Guard of Honour, a day after he assumed the command as Chief of Army Staff (CoAS). He said that we are duty bound for the security of the nation. I am fully conscious of my duties. Every soldier is equal in my eyes. Every individual, every soldier in the Army counts irrespective of the arms or service he may belong to. Because it is the contribution of every soldier that makes the Army efficient and strong. So, I would like to use this opportunity to convey the rank and file in the Army that everyone in the Army, wherever or whoever may be is equal in my eyes based on the task they are required to perform. He also promised to take care of the welfare of the families of the martyrs and those who got disabled. He said that Indian Army works under a vision and well defined strategy. The priorities are already set and he will carry them forward. General Rawat said that India wants peace but it does not mean we are weak. If need be, we will not retreat from using might.
