Making The Best Out Of Pre-Ground Beans!

Pre-ground beans aren't as bad as we think they are. I will share some tricks to make the best out of your pre-ground beans, techniques to fight the oxidation process and a few scenarios where I think pre-ground beans can be better than freshly ground whole beans. This experiment began due to a rainfall of pre-ground beans that happened to shower me with SIX bags of pre-ground beans in a short amount of time. Since I was hosting two virtual coffee seminars by Eating Through TO, they sent me three pre-ground bean bags on two separate occasions. I decided to take it as a challenge and make the best of the lemons I was given by maximizing the potential and learning as much as possible from the pre-ground bean life. I learned three tricks that would extend the freshness of the pre-ground beans. It can be summed up with three concepts. Contain the pre-ground beans and minimize its exposure to air. Freeze the pre-ground beans to slow down the oxidation process. And last but not least, tweak your brewing recipe to slightly under-extract your coffee to get some acidities to shine through in your cup. I also give my thoughts on four scenarios where I would prefer to take pre-ground beans over freshly ground whole beans.
