E-bike brands love to quote unrealistic range numbers. So the only way to find out how far you can actually ride an e-bike on a single charge, is to ride it until the battery goes flat. And that’s exactly what we did for all of the unique motor and battery combinations in our 2024 SL E-bike of the Year test. In order of appearance the bikes are as follows: Orbea Rise LT M10 - Shimano EP801 motor, 420Wh battery Whyte ELyte 150 RSX - Bosch Performance Line SX motor, 400Wh battery Trek Fuel EXe 9.7 - TQ HPR50 motor, 360Wh battery Specialized Turbo Levo SL Expert C - Levo SL 1.2 motor, 320Wh battery Santa Cruz Heckler SL S - Fazua Ride 60 motor, 430Wh battery Cannondale Moterra SL 1 - Shimano EP801 motor, 601Wh battery We also had two other bikes in our SL E-Bike of the Year test that did not feature in the range test. And that’s because they share the same Bosch Performance Line SX motor and 400Wh Bosch internal battery as the Whyte ELyte 150 RSX, so the range should be really similar. To make the test as fair as possible, we used the same ride loop, and luckily the conditions were consistent over the three days of the test. Also because Continental tyres came on board as a sponsor for this test, we were able to fit the exact same Kryptotal Soft compound control tyres to all of the bikes. Critically, there was only one rider. MBR Bike Test Editor Muldoon rode all six bikes back-to-back-to-back, so there could be no sandbagging in this range test. For reference, Alan weighs 85kg. So from the bike with the least range to the one that went the furthest, the results of the SL e-bike range test are as follows: Trek Fuel EXe 9.7 Total Assent: 811m Distance: 20.77km Ave Speed: 12.8km/h Ave HR: 133bpm Specialized Levo SL Expert C Total Assent: 844m Distance: 22.34km Ave Speed: 13.6km/h Ave HR: 143bpm Whyte ELyte 150 RSX Total Assent: 861m Distance: 22.8km Ave Speed: 14.8km/h Ave HR: 152bpm Orbea Rise LT M10 Total Assent: 955m Distance: 23.71km Ave Speed: 14.6km/h Ave HR: 140bpm Santa Cruz Heckler SL S Total Assent: 1202m Distance: 30.74km Ave Speed: 13.2km/h Ave HR: 142bpm Cannondale Moterra SL 1 Total Assent: 1215m Distance: 31.4km Ave Speed: 16.6km/h Ave HR: 131bpm We may earn a commission when purchasing through affiliate links in this description.
