Alison is based in South Australia and a carer to two daughters with a primary immunodeficiency – Lauren and Beccy. Alison has three cats, two dogs, one husband, one business and she works as an Occupational Therapist. Primary immunodeficiency impacts most aspects of Alison’s family’s life. Her family knows things they never thought they’d know. From organising medicines, hoarding food, how to get after hours GP appointments and how to spend lots of time at home – having a primary immunodeficiency impacts on everything. To Alison’s family, bringing about change involves words. It’s about telling a story, raising awareness, encouraging others to donate plasma and educating them – while her children may be tall and robust, and they may look well, they’re not well all of the time.
