(4 Oct 1956) The island Colony of Mauritius, far out in the Indian Ocean, over fifteen hundred miles from Mombasa, was the second place visited on the royal tour. Port Louis is the capital and was the destination of the royal yacht 'Britannia'. Her Royal Highness was received at the landing stage by Sir Robert Scott, the Governor. Thousands of people had gathered to greet Princess Margaret as she drove through the capital. A visit to the Champ de Mars, the Port Louis racecourse, was a notable event in the Princess's busy programme.
