In the first episode of this 3-part series I jump into my Alfa Romeo Stelvio, courtesy of Fiat Chrysler (now Stellantis) in Izmir and drive down to the ancient city of Ephesus. Legend has it that the city was established by Androclus, a prince from Athens in the 10th century BC. Nested on the coast of Ionia near present-day Selçuk in Turkey, it was one of the twelve cities of the Ionian league during the Classical Greek era. Ephesus later grew into a major Roman city and one of the most prominent ports in the Aegean with over 250,000 inhabitants. Now part of the Republic of Turkey, Ephesus is famous for its well-preserved ruins that attracts an average of 1 million tourists every year. Architectural Highlights include; • Temple of Artemis, completed around 550 BC, is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World • Library of Celsus: Built in honor of Roman Senator Celsus, this was the 3rd largest library of the ancient world and at its height housed thousands of scrolls • The Great Theatre: Built against the side of mount Pion, it was large enough to seat 25,000 spectators • Terraced Houses: Abode of the wealthy elite of Ephesus, these structures with intricate mosaics and frescoes provide insight into the domestic life of the ancient city Ephesus also holds significant Christian heritage, the Apostle Paul visited and lived in the city, and it is one of the seven churches of Asia mentioned in the Book of Revelation 00:00 Introduction 02:20 Ephesus Intro 04:44 The Arcadian (Harbour Street) 06:15 The Grand Theatre 09:22 The Library of Celsus 12:30 The Public Toilets 15:45 Dr. Alexandrios and ancient advertisement 16:50 The gates of Acropolis 18:20 Terraced Houses 19:30 Bouleuterion and Odean 20:40 The State Agora 22:00 The Temple of Artemis 25:15 The Commercial Agora 28:45 The Climb up Mount Pion Keep an eye out for the next episode coming soon, where I will be visiting the house of Virgin Mary…. @AlfaRomeo @StellantisNA @Stellantis_official @tofas #ephesus #turkey #history #travel #video #ancient #izmir
