WARNING - High pitch sounds from 3:00 to 5:10 3:00 Super chattery deep-slotting 5:20 TSC Deep drilling leadscrew holes 6:00 Leadscrew peck tapping 9:20 Part gets exploded out of the bar These are the zero-backlash leadscrew nuts used in the SwissMak, which are functionally equivalent to ball nuts but slightly less efficient. These have less backlash than common rolled ballscrews but slightly more than double nut ground ballscrews. Despite being polymer, the tolerances held on these must be very tight, as they have multiple light press fits and dowel holes to locate and secure them on the driven parts. Actual backlash is approximately 0.0003" (7-8 microns) without using the preload screw; the preload screw is to account for long term wear. The front ends of the nuts have a flap seal from the tap breaking through. This flap seal pushes contaminants forward.
