Tascam 244 or 246| steps to reduce mechanical noise from the transport

Sometimes the cassette transport of a Tascam 244 or 246 (both units are very similar and interchangeable for the purposes fo this video) with work well but make excessive physical noise - hum, rattle, etc. In my experience this varies a bit from unit to unit and I'm guessing this is at least partly due to the wear on the capstan motor or deformation of the metal plates to which the motors are attached?
