Haida Gwaii on board Cascadia Maple Leaf Adventure

Maple Leaf Adventures runs several ship excursions, this trip is on the recently renovated 138' catamaran Cascadia. The first day is on land in the Masset area of Haida Gwaii, an island archipelago offshore BC Canada. The rest of the week is spent exploring the many bays, abandoned villages and historic sites to the south within Gwaii Haanas, the World UNESCO sites and amazing Parks Canada protected area. The trips are weather and tide dependant, visiting the Haida watchmen who protect the sites, manage the visitors (no more than 12 at a time!) and tell the stories and history of the area. This rain forest is the densest biomass in the world and the ocean currents and mild climate support abundant wildlife. We explore shallow bays by kayak, fish for dinner, and appreciate a culture of people who have dragged themselves back from the abyss and now embrace a future.
