My latest addition to my collection is a Junghans Loudspeaker wall clock from Germany. This clock was actually purchased as a Christmas present by my lovely parents. The clock was shipped from the Netherlands. Amsterdam to be exact! International shipping did NOT treat the package well and it was nearly busted open by the time it reached my house, despite the "Breekbaar" label. Anyway, when the clock arrived, thankfully everything was intact. The box had taken the brunt of the impact. The first issue I worked out was the nut for the pendulum. It had been rusted on, so I had to use some Liquid Wrench to free it from the pendulum thread. Once that was free, I discovered the thread was severely bent. I straightened it out without causing harm to the threads, thankfully, and lightly lubricated the thread with clock oil (just to be safe). The nut then began working fine at raising and lowering the pendulum, so victory number one! While I was waiting for the Liquid Wrench to absorb into the nut for the pendulum, I took that time to go ahead and work on the movement. Unfortunately, due to a lack of servicing in the past the clock will need bushings sooner or later, but for now, it's running very nicely. The main point of wear was the pivot holes for both the main wheels. I cleaned out the old oil as best as I could without disassembly (using a toothpick) and re-oiled the clock with fresh oil. I also lightly oiled the pallets and the gathering pallet for the rack and snail striking mechanism. I did my best to clean off the hands and the weights. The hands and the pendulum cleaned up much nicer than the weights. The weights have just tarnished and lost their finish, unfortunately. But like I said in the video, it's still an aesthetically pleasing clock, and a functioning one at that!
