Snakebite Dub

This dub was made in honour of Jah Shaka and in memory of the feeling of standing in front of his sound system — the first time for me at Dingwalls in Camden — when time slowed and the bass became a guide rather than a weapon. I wanted to capture that organic atmosphere where ganja hangs in the air, the sound breathes, and a room full of strangers locks into the same frequency, the only illumination a small lamp glowing over Shaka’s Garrard turntable, everything else disappearing into darkness. The warmth of valve amplifiers pushes the music forward — a traditional sound, heavy and alive, untouched by trends or fashions, carrying lineage rather than novelty. Less a performance, more a collective immersion: heads bowed, eyes closed, bodies tuned to message and vibration. When Shaka played, it wasn’t just a dance — it was the only thing that mattered, a space where you belonged, a meditation that deepened over the hours, carrying a profound understanding that stays with you, an eternal imprint in the chest and the mind, a feeling you recognise instantly and spend a lifetime chasing. #reggaemusic #roots #reggae #newmusic #oldschool
