It comes under the National Capital Region and is around 44 kilometres (27 mi) from New Delhi. It lies 214 km (128 miles) southwest of Chandigarh, the state capital. Sonipat lies on Delhi Western Peripheral Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway (NE II) and Grand Trunk Road (NH 44) as well as the planned Delhi–Sonipat–Panipat Regional Rapid Transit System. Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway will also connect Sonipat. Sonipat is poised for significant enhancements in its connectivity infrastructure, encompassing transportation and digital networks. Sonipat-Delhi Metro Link: A 26.5 km metro corridor connecting Rithala in Delhi to Nathupur in Sonipat is underway. This project, featuring 21 stations, aims to be operational by 2028, facilitating seamless travel for approximately 50,000 daily commuters and bolstering Sonipat's commercial and residential appeal. Delhi-Panipat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS): This 103 km semi-high-speed rail corridor will traverse key nodes such as Kundli, Rajiv Gandhi Education City, Gannaur, and Samalkha along National Highway 44. Designed for speeds up to 160 km/h, the RRTS will reduce travel time between Delhi and Karnal to approximately 45 minutes, significantly enhancing regional connectivity. Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC): Scheduled for completion by March 2025, the 121.7 km HORC will link Palwal to Sonipat via Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkhoda. This high-speed rail line, running parallel to the Western Peripheral Expressway, aims to decongest existing rail networks and promote economic development in the region.
