Located in the heart of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in the Upper Lot, this Harry Potter motion-based simulator takes guests on an immersive flight through the skies above Hogwarts, into the Forbidden Forest, across the Quidditch pitch, and even deep into the Chamber of Secrets. This is the Hollywood version of the fan-favorite attraction, also found in Universal Studios Orlando, Japan, and Beijing Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey debuted at Universal Studios Hollywood on April 7, 2016, as part of the grand opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Hogsmeade. Initially featuring 3D Quidditch goggles and HD screens, the ride was later upgraded to 4K 120 FPS high-definition projection in March 2017, offering smoother visuals and improved clarity. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is built around a KUKA robotic arm system mounted on a moving track, allowing for fluid, dynamic motion as guests soar through key moments from J.K. Rowling’s legendary Harry Potter series. From encountering a fire-breathing dragon and giant spiders to facing off with Dementors, this ride captures the danger and excitement of Harry Potter’s world like never before. Before boarding Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, guests journey through the interiors of Hogwarts Castle. The queue is an attraction in itself, leading you through locations including Dumbledore’s office, the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, the Gryffindor common room, and corridors filled with moving portraits and magical artifacts. Once onboard, Hermione casts a spell and riders are launched through the Floo Network into the skies over Hogwarts. The adventure continues with a thrilling Quidditch match, a close encounter with a Hungarian Horntail, a terrifying trip through the Forbidden Forest, a brush with the Whomping Willow, and a dramatic escape from the Dementors before heading into the Chamber of Secrets. After completing the ride, guests exit through Filch's Emporium of Confiscated Goods, offering Harry Potter merchandise, wands, and collectibles. Universal Studios Hollywood, the home of this magical attraction opened in 1964 as a studio tour offering a behind-the-scenes look at real film sets. It has evolved into a full-fledged theme park that celebrates Hollywood’s biggest films. The park is uniquely built on a working film studio lot and is divided into the Upper and Lower Lots, featuring blockbuster rides based on franchises like Jurassic World, The Simpsons, Transformers, and Despicable Me. The Harry Potter franchise, written by J.K. Rowling, began with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997 and expanded into a seven-book saga that sold over 500 million copies worldwide.
