Kingston used Computex 2025 to preview the Fury Impact DDR5 CAMM2 module, a new JEDEC-ratified form factor that replaces edge-connector DIMMs with a slim, screw-down card that mates to the motherboard through a high-density mezzanine connector https://www.kingston.com The 128-bit interface, inherited from laptop LPDDR packages, lets a single module operate in dual-channel mode while occupying roughly half the board area of two SO-DIMMs, opening valuable routing space for GPUs or additional NVMe slots in compact systems, yet still reaching desktop-class bandwidth. Physically the CAMM2 board aligns memory packages on both sides of a low-profile substrate and relies on five captive screws to guarantee even pressure and signal integrity at up to 8 000 MT/s. Demonstrated on a Gigabyte reference motherboard, a single 128 GB Fury Impact card replaces four 32 GB UDIMMs, reducing power draw by double-digit percentages thanks to shorter traces and integrated voltage regulation, while also lowering thermal density and simplifying airflow layout. Because CAMM2 is now a JEDEC open standard, Kingston expects other vendors to enter the market once compatible notebook and mini-ITX platforms arrive toward late 2025. The company emphasises co-development with board partners to finalise firmware, on-module PMIC tuning, and SPD tables that expose XMP-like performance profiles without user intervention, a prerequisite for workstation stability across mixed-vendor ecosystems.
