There is a system in place to ensure the fair treatment and justice for all citizens. We call it the Justice System, but is it really just? Growing up, it was my dream to become a lawyer in the United States, as I was a firm believer in fair treatment and an equitable world. As I grew older, I realized that law in the United States isn’t exactly evenhanded. This shouldn’t be the case. The Justice System and the laws that govern it are in serious need of reform. Cassandra Owei is a Nigerian student at the American International School of Cape Town. Although Nigerian, she was born in Germany and brought up in South Africa. This global perspective has brought her in touch with many different cultures. Cassandra’s belief that all people should have basic rights and be treated equally led her to co-found the charitable company Caps For Care, a social enterprise that aims to help children in need. For her work with her company, she has been awarded the AISA Service and Leadership Award. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
