This level crossing is located beside the town's railway station, is controlled from all the way in Basingstoke, and in its current form dates back to the West of England Line's re-signalling of 2012. The level crossing itself is holding up quite well, apart from the alarms here: one is particularly faulty and deep-pitched-sounding with the other, dating back to 2018, also sounding a little uneven and changing pitch between the clips slightly. Additional warning signage is also provided for pedestrians here. Two separate lowerings are featured in this video, and although they happened as much as half an hour apart, they were much closer together than they would normally be. The first features an additional Yeovil Pen Mill service running into the station along the 'wrong' line arriving from Reading. Once the two hourly Exeter trains passed, it would then return to London Waterloo. That line is fully bi-directionally signalled, so it was a perfectly safe move which provided a slightly more intriguing shot. Normally, the hourly off-peak services are planned to pass each other in this area, so choose your shot wisely if filming here and you don't want a long wait until the next!
