Discover the reason bright pinks like Opera Rose are not lightfast, or often called fugitive. What kinds of paints are also bright pinks and lightfast? I want my artwork to be able to withstand normal display conditions without fading or changing to ugly brown tones instead of pink! Here I show you two versions of fugitive Opera Rose. Then I compare nine other watercolour pinks, magentas and reds that can dilute to make bright pinks. Here are the paints which I swatch: Opera Rose by Winsor & Newton PR122 plus fluorescent dye Opera Rose by Sennelier PR81:1 Fluro Quinacridone Magenta by Holbein PR122 Quinacridone Magenta by Winsor & Newton PR122 Quinacridone Magenta by QOR PR122 Permanent Rose by Winsor & Newton PV19 Rose Madder Lake by Sennelier PV19 Quinacridone Red by Holbein PV19 Quinacridone Permanent Rose by Mission Gold PV19 Quinacridone Pink by Daniel Smith PV42 Quinacridone Rose by Daniel Smith PV19 My favourite substitute for Opera Rose is possibly Quinacridone Magenta by Winsor & Newton, but a very close second is Rose Madder Lake by Sennelier. You can add a bit of Quinacridone Magenta to your Rose Madder Lake to make it a more blue-leaning pink as well. There are many options to help you find the right shade of pink that will withstand the test of time and display.
