Make your own grow bags from landscape fabric using this easy pattern. They are a smart option for small balconies or patios. I also use them around my garden. Landscape fabric like the product shown here is made from polypropylene. This is the same stuff that things like yogurt containers are made of. It's a non-woven fabric, also called a geotextile. It is breathable (lets oxygen in) and porous (drains water more than other containers like clay or plastic). The more layers you use for your bag, the better they retain moisture. I made mine with two layers of 7-year landscape fabric. You could also use a more heavy-duty version of the same product.
