Students at Elgin High School walked out of class and marched off campus to protest ICE / immigration enforcement — part of a wave of student walkouts across Central Texas this week. This comes as the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released new guidance on campus walkouts, including: students being marked absent, districts potentially losing attendance funding if walkouts are allowed/encouraged, and possible sanctions for educators/districts accused of “facilitating” walkouts.
