First Look at Amtrak's ALC-42 Diesels on the California Zephyr, Ottumwa, IA Summer 2021

Amtrak’s newest diesel power for their long-distance trains – the ALC-42’s – have started to be delivered from the Siemens plant in Sacramento, California for acceptance and testing on the Northeast Corridor in summer 2021. In this video, I caught the first two locomotives, Amtrak 300 and 301, during their trips east on Amtrak’s California Zephyr though southern Iowa. Heavy delays out west caused both trains to be many hours late, and you’ll get to see some of the unusual action surrounding these delays as the trains make their stops at the station in Ottumwa, Iowa. Also featured in the video are two other Amtrak trains, including one with three private cars on the end!
