On 8 December 1992, ITN's Jeremy Thompson spoke to militiamen in the Somali capital of Mogadishu, one day before American troops were due to arrive in the country. The US-led Unified Task Force (UNITAF), codenamed Operation Restore Hope, was tasked with implementing UN Security Council Resolution 794 to protect humanitarian operations in southern Somalia.
