How do I make PTFE 6AN hoses. The PTFE hose in our power steering hose kit is the high pressure hose and for higher pressure applications, 2000-psi or less. It can easily be identified by the packaging on our kit. And the plastic liner, which is Poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene or PTFE for short. The corresponding hose ends are labeled PTFE as well, and consist of three pieces. First slide socket over a hose end. This next piece is what's causing you problems if you have already tried to makes lines and have failed. This is an Olive. It is NOT a ferrule. It is NOT a crush sleeve. Think of an Olive like a wedge. It will wedge between the PTFE liner and the steel braid. Press it into a table top to seat it all the way. Lube the threads and the tip of the hose end. Thread them together by hand. At this point you will want to hold this end with a vise. There are nice nonmarring tools available. But they are not necessary and I wont be suing them. Because, if you are watching this you probably do not have them. Tighten this end with a wrench, and hold the line with upward pressure while you tighten the ends together. Once the threaded ends bottom out, you are done. Typically the corners will align, but not always. Repeat these steps for the opposite end. But before you cut your hose to length there are a few things to consider. Make the hose from pump to steering rack much longer than you think it needs to be. You want lots of extra for two reasons. One; freedom of movement to reduce stress at the connection. Two, is to reduced noise. These reasons are why you may have noticed factory power steering lines are much longer than they need to be. Tightly wrap painters’ tape where you want to cut it. Mark where you want to cut leaving a little extra so the braid doesn't flair after the cut. Use a cut off wheel or hose cutters to cut. Once you have both hose ends on, flush the hose to remove any debris before final installation. And that is the meat of what you need to know about making high pressure PTFE lines. #ANHose #PTFEHose #PowerSteering #HighPressureLines #CarMods #ANFittings #RaceCarLife #CVFRacing #DIYAuto #PerformanceParts #AutoTech #FuelLines #BrakeLines #HydraulicHose #CarFabrication #Motorsports #TrackReady #WrenchLife #BuiltNotBought #CarEnthusiast
