Lesbians, Gays, and Bisexuals have something to do with Sexual Orientation Sexual Orientation answers the question: "Who are you attracted to?" It is a person's concept of their attraction to other people. Examples: 1. Homosexuals: attracted to people of the same gender (Lesbians and Gays) 2. Heterosexuals: attracted to people of the opposite gender (Straight) 3. Bisexuals: attracted to both male and female Being transgender has nothing to do with sexual orientation. C. Transgender is more of an identity: gender identity Gender Identity answers the question: "What do you identify with?" It is a person's concept of how they see themselves. Examples: Male, Female or Queer? II. Who are Transgender People? A. Transgender people or trans* people are those whose gender identities do not match their gender assigned at birth. B. Female to Male (FTM) Transgender/ Trans man: are male identified individuals who were assigned female at birth. C. Male to Female (MTF) Transgender/ Trans woman: are female identified individuals who were assigned male at birth. III. Who are transgender people attracted to? A. They can be attracted to anyone, regardless of their gender identity and gender expression. B. Examples for transgender men or trans men: Straight (attracted to women); Gay (attracted to men); and Bisexual (attracted to both men and women) C. Examples for transgender women or trans women: Straight (attracted to men); Lesbian (attracted to women); and Bisexual (attracted to both men and women). IV. In a nutshell: A. Gender identity cannot dictate your Gender Expression (or how you express yourself) and Sexual Orientation. These are three different concepts. B. Regardless of their sexual orientation and gender expression, trans men are men and trans women are women. The term "transgender" or "trans" is just a way to describe them. C.
