Israel debuted in 1973 and has had success and misfortune in all decades since. They have won four times and hosted the contest three times. Israel has participated the most times without ever ending up last. After 1998 they almost every year sang in both Hebrew and English, but nowadays they mostly sing in only English. They basically don’t have any diaspora voting, except for France and Caucasus. Therefore they tend to flop in televoting. In 2024 their participation sparked enormous controversy, because of the war in Gaza. Their big flop in jury voting and the huge success in the televoting are assumed to be political.
