Every year, billions of living cows, sheep, pigs and goats are loaded onto trucks and ships in the EU to be transported in terrible conditions. Nobody really knows how many farm animals get injured or die beyond the EU borders. It is cruel to raise an animal in one country, transport it alive to another and slaughter it there. On the way, animals are very stressed and suffer, some even die because of the horrible conditions. But that’s how the system works at the moment because it’s profitable. But there are solutions. We can stop this suffering by ending live animal export outside the EU. We can set up better transport conditions in Europe and have more regional production. These journeys don’t need to happen.
