Cleaning 3 HP Compaq Elite 8100 SFF PC's. For timestamps look in the description below! I had to do a clean software install on these HP Compaq Elite 8100 SFF desktop PC's, however, it was clear that the software wasn't the only thing in need of cleaning. These machines were grey of dust, so, I opened them up and cleaned them off a bit. These desktops came from a company that went bust, and the new owner had them laying around in storage for a while and wanted to use them for simple office and internet tasks. Though old, these machines are still very capable of doing such things. With a Core i3 540 (2 cores 4 threads) clocked at 3,06Ghz, 4GB of RAM and a 250GB mechanical harddrive these would do the job nicely. SSD ofcourse would give better boot times but, switch them on in the morning, leave them on all day, and a harddrive is still good enough for these tasks. If the owner wants more speed, it can always be upgraded later. After the cleaning I installed Windows 10 which worked nicely (should ever wonder if you can run Windows 10 on these, it works no problems at all). Didn't make a video of that because... nothing interesting about that I guess. The machines are labeled WS02, WS04 and WS06, which stands for Work Station. Skip parts or jump straight to the 'action' ? Here are some timestamps: 0:26 : ws06 introduction 3:14 : ws04 introduction 5:24 : ws02 introduction 6:56 : ws06 dust busting 9:16 : ws06 putting back together 10:36 : ws02 dust busting 13:06 : ws02 putting back together 13:58 : ws04 dust busting Quick Q/A: Q: Doesn't an aircompressor spray moist in the PC? A: No, if you do short bursts it won't do that. Don't spray for long in 1 go, because then it can cause moist spraying out. Q: Z0mg you didn't block the fan of the PSU, now it's broken for sure!1one! A: It would have been better to block it, but didn't blow directly on it. The fan didn't spin faster like it would do under normal operation. And they still work and the fans weren't damaged (no nasty rattles or anything) Q: Did you clean thermal paste as well? A: No, no need. It might cause a 1 to 5 degree difference, but not worth the trouble. CPU hit 64ºC during Prim95 (which about as worse as it gets), so during normal office/internet operations it will never even come close. Max temperature is rated 72ºC so even during Prim95 it never even came close to that. Q: Mechanical harddrives suck! A: Well, I didn't get paid to put SSD's in it, besides, for these tasks, SSD isn't realy needed. Just turn on the PC in the morning, leave it on all day, and it's fine. Q: Disassemble and reassemble look pretty easy. A: It is, though HP might have a 'bad reputation' for propriatary components and mediocre quality consumer PC's, these 'professional' desktops are actualy of good build quality and very easy to maintain. No need for screwdrivers or special tools (crowbar, armyknife, hammer). I've worked on different OEM brand PC's over the years, but these must have been the easiest to take apart and put back together.
