Gata is an amazing coffee cake and around easter time there is a coin or something of the sort hidden in the cake. It’s said that the person who gets the coin will be lucky. This mildly sweet relatively easy cake to make is delicious any time of day or year. You can find this recipe and many more in our cookbook @lavashthebook DOUGH ¼ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature ⅓ cup sugar ½ cup Karoun Plain Yogurt ¼ cup sour cream 1 tsp kosher salt 1/4 tsp baking soda 1 3/4 cups A.P flour, plus more for dusting FILLING 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, at room temperature ½ cup walnuts, chopped ⅓ cup sugar 1½ Tbsp AP flour ¼ tsp salt 1 large egg, lightly beaten Preheat oven to 375. Mix butter and sugar together. Add in remaining Dough ingredients and knead. press into disc and place in refrigerator. place all filling ingredients into bowl and mix. Remove dough from fridge and flatten out edges. place filling into center and pull the edges up while pleating to create a seal. Flip over so seal in on the bottom onto a sheet tray with parchment paper. Press down on gata to make a disc. make marks in a cross hatch pattern with the back of a fork. make sure not to pierce the dough. Brush with egg and bake for 30 min or until gata is golden brown .
