Bix Beiderbecke, at the height of his powers, leads the Paul Whiteman brass section majestically throughout "There Ain't No Sweet Man That's Worth The Salt Of My Tears", culminating in a superb 8 bar solo, following Frank Trumbauer's C melody sax solo. This is take 2, which was released in 1937 as part of the Victor-RCA "Paul Whiteman - A Souvenir Program" album of 78s. The original issued take is take 3, which was released in July 1928 on Victor 21464. Bix's solo is noticeably different, demonstrating his marvellous improvisational skills. Henry Busse acted as assistant director for this recording session.
