First Forage of 2025, Shrimp of the Woods

In this video, we discuss proof of concept with foraging. One of the biggest arguments against it is that in winter, there is nothing to find. That couldnt be further from the truth. Granted, yes, I am in the southeast, so my climate is different than those living elsewhere but even in the cold northeast, there are weeks of warm temperatures. During these warm periods in winter is a really good time to go walk around and check for free food. CAUTION: As always, NEVER EVER eat a mushroom that you are not 100% sure of its identity. There are mushrooms that can literally leave you hospitalized if not worse. Luckily, there are several beginner level mushrooms that are easy to identify with no really close look a likes. The best way to avoid any issues is to get multiple field guides and bring them while foraging. Also, just because a mushroom is considered edible, doesnt mean you personally can handle it. So if you find a variety you are trying for the first time, try a little bit first.
