At the age of two, Nathaniel Tate found out he was born with an extra rib. At the time, no one thought much of it. Nate played football and ran track, adapting to what his body could do just thinking his limited mobility and pain afterwards was just normal. An electrician by trade, Nate's duties included reaching high for items and constant twisting/turning motions. After working for a couple days, he would drop tools, be in tremendous pain and have such limited mobility he would have to take a couple days off of work to recuperate. After researching online, they came across Dr. Barbara Melendez at the Vascular Institute of the Rockies. Dr. Melendez diagnosed Nate with Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome which was causing pinching of the nerves and weakness. His large cervical ribs were essentially blocking the mobility of his shoulder. Dr. Melendez performed surgery to remove his extra cervical rib and just two days later he had range and mobility he had never known in his life. He credits Dr. Melendez with "saving his life!"
