We have a huge problem with food. The current system of agriculture is unethical, inequitable, and ultimately, unsustainable. As bad as it is now, it is predicted to only get worse. High school senior Alex Mutter argues that it doesn’t have to. The solution? Lab-cultured meat. Intro animation by Will Elliot. Animation Music: “Scarlet Fire (Sting)” by Otis McDonald. Alex Mutter is currently a senior at LFHS. Since moving from across the pond seven years ago, he has developed a strong passion for science and business— next year he hopes to study either biomedical sciences or medical innovation and enterprise in the UK. An avid cyclist, Alex spends his early mornings of the weekend on long rides throughout the North Shore. On other days, he is burrowed at home watching rugby games or Formula One races. Through his talk, he hopes to give insight on the future of our diets with the advent of rapidly growing “lab cultured meat” technology. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
