Before you start, check that the total weight of the platform and any bikes you are carrying doesn't exceed your nose weight. Doing so could affect the handling of your vehicle and make driving dangerous. You can find the nose weight of your car in your handbook, or online at the Caravan Club website. All the tools you need to fit your new rack are included. It's a good idea to lay all the parts out on the floor, so you will have them all to hand when you need them. Start by giving the tow bar a clean to remove any dirt or grease. Check that there is at least 65mm clearance between the tow ball and your rear bumper. Any less and the platform won't fit properly. Unlock the tow ball lock. Now use the spanner to undo the bolt on the cone just below it. Don't undo it all the way, just enough to loosen it. Now turn the plastic tow ball lock anticlockwise, which should release four quadrant pieces to go over the tow ball. Using two arms, lift the platform up and gently lower it on to the tow ball. Check the platform is seated correctly and is straight and not tipping up or down. Adjust the platform so that it's level, and then turn the tow bar lock clockwise to tighten it. Check that the clasp has disappeared back into the housing. Next, use the spanner to tighten the bolt on the clip. Take care to ensure it's straight. Now test that the platform won't move by pulling on it. If it does, tighten the bolt a little more until it's secure. Once you're happy it's tight enough, use the keys to lock the tow ball lock. Remove them and store them somewhere safe. Next, fit your number plate onto the supplied lightboard. Take care not to tighten the screw too much as you could damage the number plate. Unravel the power cord. Gently slide the lightboard onto the edge of the platform, using even force both sides. Once it's been fixed in place, use the clips either side to secure it to the platform. Thread the power cable through the platform and secure it in place with the cable tie supplied. This is to stop it from dragging on the floor or becoming damaged while you're driving. Now plug it in. Unclip the four straps and lower the bike racks. Secure each one to the platform with the clips either side, taking care to ensure that they are all safely engaged. You're now ready to load up your bikes and hit the road! To fit bikes, start with the one closest to the boot. Slide the bike’s wheels into the wheel tray closest to the boot and behind the support column. Clip the frame into place and secure the wheels with the straps. Install each subsequent bike facing in the opposite direction. Take care to do up all locks and wheel straps. Remove all keys from the rack and keep them somewhere safe. Finally, thread the two straps around the bike frames to secure them to each other and the two support columns. When fitting your bikes, be care when dealing with fragile carbon frames.
