Medical physics is a branch of Physics that applies the principles and techniques of physics to medicine and healthcare. It focuses on using physical concepts, especially radiation and imaging technologies, to help doctors diagnose and treat diseases. Medical physicists work with medical equipment and ensure that these technologies operate safely and effectively for patients. One of the important areas of medical physics is diagnostic imaging. Techniques such as X-rays, CT scans, MRI, and ultrasound are used to produce images of the inside of the human body. These images help doctors detect injuries and diseases. For example, X-rays are commonly used to examine broken bones, while MRI scans provide detailed images of soft tissues such as the brain and muscles. Another major application of medical physics is radiation therapy, which is widely used in the treatment of Cancer. In this process, high-energy radiation is directed at cancer cells to destroy or damage them so they cannot grow or spread. Medical physicists carefully calculate the radiation dose to ensure that the cancer cells are targeted while minimizing damage to the surrounding healthy tissues. Medical physics also plays a role in nuclear medicine. In this field, small amounts of radioactive substances called tracers are introduced into the body to study the function of organs. Special detectors and imaging systems then track these tracers to produce images that help doctors diagnose diseases affecting organs such as the heart, liver, or kidneys. Overall, medical physics is essential in modern healthcare because it improves the accuracy of medical diagnosis and the effectiveness of treatments. By applying the laws of physics to medical technology, medical physicists help ensure that patients receive safe and efficient medical care.
