The Moog Messenger is a small-footprint monophonic analog synthesizer from an iconic and pioneering synth company. Despite its desktop-saving size, however, the Messenger packs in 32 semi-weighted keys (with velocity and aftertouch), 256 onboard patches, two variable waveshape voltage-controlled oscillators, a variable waveshape sub oscillator, two LFOs (selectable waveshape and triangle wave), two ADSR loopable envelopes, 64-step sequencer and a bounty of inputs and outputs. “I’m kind of Moog obsessed,” says musician, composer, producer, photographer and visual designer Tycho (a.k.a Scott Hansen). “My first Moog synthesizer was a Voyager, and I ended up getting a Minimoog, Source, Prodigy and Matriarch—which was the primary choice for my album Infinite Health, where I wanted synth and guitar sounds to overlap and connect in interesting ways. The Messenger feels like a very playable instrument, as opposed to something you have to dive into with sound design.
