"Type One is one big significant event that happened like a tornado, a school shooting, perhaps being shot in a school shooting. Some of those major things that I think the majority of us would really agree that was traumatic. A Type Two trauma shorter in duration but it's still longer than one event. So it may be a hurricane that lasted four days, and then a week later, we had another hurricane. So it may not be a specific lightning bolt intense event, but it was lower level for a longer period of time and still pretty significant. The third type is repeated situations that come up over and over again, particularly in childhood that can affect the person long term. We call this complex trauma. So that might be things like repeated bullying by classmates, by teachers, by administrators. That could be low-level emotional abuse in the home. Now low level, meaning there's no bruising, there's no significant things that a teacher might say, I wonder, but it's that kind of low grade enough. Things like chronic poverty, chronic hunger, systemic racism, these are all things that absolutely can lead to a complex trauma response." - Cheryl Chase, Ph.D. Watch the webinar and find more resources from the Q&A here: https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/b...
