Pesta Igal 2010 - Pakiring (Sitangkai)

Pesta Igal is an international festival-concert that showcases treasures of traditional music and dance of the peoples of maritime Southeast Asia. Igal is considered to be one of the most important forms of traditional dance in the Philippines and is a common style among communities in the Sulu, Celebes and eastern Java seas. Three participating groups from Tawi-Tawi (Tabawan and Sitangkai) and Semporna, Sabah, Malaysia comes together to perform for this inaugural event. Pesta Igal aims to pursue the preservation and popularization of traditional music and dance through the performance of classical pieces and the creation of new ones. The evening endeavours to bring forth a prime example of the preservation and popularization of traditional expressions as well as a model for meaningful cultural exchange. Pesta Igal is a project under the Collaborative Work Grant of the Asia Scholarship Foundation (ASF) based in Bangkok and is produced together with Teatro Filipino Integrated, Inc. (TFI) in cooperation with the University of the Philippines Asian Center.
