This is more than a knife—it’s a gift forged in fire and family. In this video, we craft an 8-inch kitchen and barbecue knife featuring the feather Damascus pattern, starting with 8 pieces of 1095 steel and 7 pieces of 15N20 steel, weighing initially 2.3 kilograms. The blade ends up 2.8 mm thick and weighs 279 grams, with an approximate hardness of 62 HRC, perfectly balanced for both kitchen precision and grilling tasks. The handle is made from stabilized driftwood, filled with clear resin to preserve its natural voids and textures. What makes this blade truly special is the story behind it: one of my nephews wanted to learn to forge a knife for his father’s birthday. Together, we shaped this blade—step by step, hammer by hammer. This is a journey of mentorship, memory, and steel. Welcome to the forge.
